Why I still print

A file is a promise. A print is the thing itself.
Why I still print

Every client gets a small set of prints, even when they only asked for files. Screens change every few years. Paper stays in a drawer and waits.

Something to hold

The prints are the part people mention when they come back to book again. Nobody has ever told me they loved scrolling a folder.

Why paper

Screens flatten everything to the same glowing rectangle. Paper has weight, texture and a white that belongs to the room it is in. People hold prints differently. They slow down.

Every gallery I deliver comes with a small box of prints chosen by me, not by an algorithm. It is the part of the job clients mention most.

Working with the lab

I work with one lab in Porto and visit twice a year. We proof every new paper by hand and argue happily about blacks. That relationship is worth more than any preset.

A file is a promise. A print is the thing itself.
